Captivating
Online Courses
Who we are
Jumpcut creates captivating online courses about entrepreneurship.

There are over 1.3 million college students in the United States today majoring in business, but the classes they take are hideously outdated, and irrelevant to their future careers. Business education is fundamentally broken.

Jumpcut is where the next generation of entrepreneurs will be developed. Our online courses help people develop the skills they need in order to turn their passions into a successful business.

Our first course is a comprehensive YouTube Influencer course, where the world's top influencers teach you how to create compelling, original content, develop a massive following online, and monetize your audience so that you can live a life pursuing your passions.

We make mindblowing online courses.
Most online courses suck...unless you enjoy paying for monotonous lectures with a powerpoint slide or two thrown in. At Jumpcut, we ditch the traditional lecture-style course and utilize storytelling, cinematography, and soundtracks to make each course feel like a movie. To see how much of a difference this makes, push “c” while watching this video.
We all have a “before Jumpcut” and “after Jumpcut” version of ourselves.
Everybody that works at Jumpcut has one thing in common: when they look back to the day they were hired, they don’t even recognize themselves. That’s because we approach personal growth a little differently.
Meet Kong, the CEO.
He’s a retired YouTuber, French Bulldog owner, sous vide enthusiast, and college dropout turned YC founder. Now, he spends most of his time changing the landscape of online education, one course at a time. If you want the tl;dr on Kong, watch this walking (one take) interview.

Jumpcut is a Y combinator and venture-backed startup that creates cinematic online courses for entrepreneurs.

The founding team at Jumpcut has years of experience creating binge-worthy content — we’ve created multiple viral YouTube channels that now have over 4.5 million subscribers and over 500 million views. We’re now taking that content creation experience and applying it to the monotonous world of online education.

If you’ve ever taken an online course, you already know that 99% of them suck. That’s because they all do the same thing: record a dry and uninspiring instructor who talks to the camera for hours on end. While this is fantastic for getting over an Ambien addiction, it’s atrocious for actual learning.

Think about what can be done with video: we have the ability to create things like Avatar, The Dark Knight, and Game of Thrones, but the status quo when it comes to online courses is this. In an ice cream parlor of unlimited flavors, every other online education company has opted for vanilla. We have our eye on the mint triple chocolate chip birthday cake cookie dough with strawberry whipped cream and banana nut sprinkles.

Our team is approaching online learning in a completely new way: combining educational content with compelling stories, captivating cinematography, creative soundtracks, and much more. The result is a beautiful course that feels like a movie. We believe the future of education lies in creating world-class content.

If you want to learn more about our vision, check out our blog post about the future of education.

Here’s a visual example of the difference between most online courses, and ours.

Careers at Jumpcut
Marketing Engineering Content
What the job entails:

Imagine joining one of the most innovative direct response marketing companies in the world and growing into a master marketer alongside the same team that has:

• Grown from zero to over a million per month in revenue from a single online course.
• Had multiple million dollar digital product launches.
• Launched Facebook and YouTube ads seen all around the world by tens of millions of people.
• Gained over a million email leads in the past 12 months alone.

Due to our accelerated growth, we at Jumpcut are looking for an ambitious direct response marketing specialist to lead some of our most important marketing projects.

We’re looking for someone that eats, sleeps, and breathes direct response marketing and LOVES the psychology of persuasion and influence.

You will work alongside Brandon, our Director of Marketing, and decide on the marketing strategy that will help us grow from $1M/month in revenue to over $10M/month over the next few years.

Our goal is to take online business education (and our marketing) to a more innovative level than anyone has ever done before.

Why does that matter to you?

Here’s why: due to our unique team composition, there’s no other position in the world that offers as valuable a learning experience and professional growth opportunity as this.

If you’re an ambitious direct response marketer, then you couldn’t possibly want to work anywhere else.

You’re going to be part of a team that is moving incredibly quick. The speed with which we implement new ideas is likely faster than you’ve ever experienced. You’ll get a 360 degree view of how the business works and it will be your ideas that help us grow even faster.

On top of all that, our salary is extremely competitive with lots of room for growth.

Who you'll be working with:

You'll be working alongside Brandon, our Director of Marketing, and you'll be reporting to Kong, our CEO. You'll have access to a team of copywriters to help you produce new marketing tests, funnels, and product launches as well as a production, design, and engineering team to help get everything live and looking great.

Outcomes:

1. Create and test 6 new revenue streams (or improve current ones) that help bring in an additional $10+ million in revenue in 2019.
2. Create two new customer acquisition systems to supplement existing ones (ex. a new front-end offer that's profitable on Facebook/YouTube ads).
What you’ll do:
  • Find, test, and grow new marketing channels and tactics to bring in an additional ten million dollars in annual revenue. (Upsell sequences, free+shipping front-end offers, new continuity and ascension offers).
  • Brainstorm innovative new marketing funnels, build them, and then test them out in the real-world. (Can you dive into Snapchat Ads, figure out the platform, and build it into a 7-figure revenue channel for us almost entirely on your own?)
  • Craft long-form Video Sales Letters, product launches, and automated marketing funnels that pull in huge conversion rates. (You should know what PLF means and have plenty of experience leveraging it.)
  • And so much more.
  • You’ll be a good fit if:
  • You know how to create “irresistible offers” in the digital product (information marketing) space...and already have quite a few “wins” under your belt.
  • You are the most ambitious, competitive, determined individual out of anyone you know.
  • You prefer to be judged on your direct, quantifiable performance numbers (metrics like sales during a launch).
  • You’re passionate about direct response marketing, copywriting, persuasion, and psychology almost to the point of obsession.
  • You can communicate clearly, take feedback well, and want to collaborate with those who know things you don’t so that you can learn and improve.
  • You love the idea of spending your time strategizing the most profitable funnels, VSLs, and launch strategies.
  • Now, here’s what makes Jumpcut an especially interesting place to work for someone like you:
  • We’ve got a team of engineers that can create our own custom marketing tools, software, and systems. That opens up a LOT of opportunity for putting your ideas into action.  Because of that, we’re never limited by what tools are available on the market. You imagine it, we can build it.
  • We’ve also got an amazing in-house production team which means we have the ability to shoot marketing videos that rival TV shows in their production value. You can imagine what that does for our conversion rates.
  • If you’ve made it this far, you should probably hit that nice looking green button below and apply. We’ll talk to you soon!

Now, due to our accelerated growth, we at Jumpcut are looking for an ambitious senior copywriter to lead our most important copywriting projects.

Our goal is to take online business education (and our marketing) to a more innovative level than anyone has ever done before.

Why does that matter to you?

Here’s why: due to our unique team composition, there’s no other position in the world that offers as valuable a learning experience and professional growth opportunity as this.

In fact, that brings me to another important point which makes Jumpcut an amazing place to work for senior copywriters: You probably won’t stay as a copywriter for long.

If you’re open to it, we want to train you as quickly as possible to take on bigger projects like product launch management, paid advertising, and marketing funnel optimization. On top of that, our salary is extremely competitive with lots of room for growth.

(Note: This position is available to fully-remote workers, if that’s what you’re interested in, although most of our team is based in Hollywood, California.)

    Who you'll be working with:

You'll be reporting to Brandon, our Director of Marketing, and working alongside the rest of the marketing team (mainly other copywriters). We take a collaborative approach to the marketing, so you should be excited to brainstorm product launch strategies, new offers, and copywriting ideas with the rest of the team.

    Outcomes:

    1. Write and collaborate on high-level copywriting projects like PLC videos, VSL scripts, sales page design and strategy, YouTube ad scripts, and more.
    2. Help mentor and train the junior copywriters, and help think through long-term marketing strategy (what offers to create, how to position them, the best type of funnel to use for a new offer, etc.)
    What you'll do:
  • Write long-form Video Sales Letters that pull in huge conversion rates.
  • Craft million-dollar product launches through education-based marketing.
  • Build upsell pages that help significantly boost our revenue.
  • And so much more.
  • You'll be a good fit if:
  • You write incredible, profit-generating copy that is emotional, compelling, relatable, and impossible to not pay attention to...and already have quite a few “wins” under your belt.
  • You are the most ambitious, competitive, determined individual out of anyone you know.
  • You prefer to be judged on your direct, quantifiable performance numbers (metrics like sales during a launch) because you know that the sky's the limit in terms of your professional growth if you can drive real results with your copy.
  • You’re passionate about direct response marketing, copywriting, persuasion, and psychology almost to the point of obsession.

Location: Engineer must be local, but partial remote work will be considered

Ever meet someone who works at Jumpcut? You should -- our people are amazing. Here’s the good news: our 2019 growth plans are already aggressively underway. Most of our technical team is remote; but we've just brought on a Director of Engineering to help us build out the core LA team, and we're starting with 2-3 engineers.

    You will be responsible for:

    Development.

Most of our solutions are in house, including our cinematic video platform. We are not only looking to make our education platform the best one online, but we want our code to be world class too. This means making good design decisions by factoring in our current architecture as well as where we're headed. The key here is to make sure the code that’s written is always extensible. You should also be writing beautiful code that matters, and you should be proud of each line you write.

You'll be working on a variety of tasks related to our Q1 workplan. Specifically, we're focused on bolstering our marketing efforts, so you'll be building out a A/B testing framework for our marketing funnel, and creating our optin, sales, and enrollment pages for our different courses. You'll also be helping with rapid MVP-style testing of different educational features for our course that will help our students be more successful. These include ideas like group collaboration, peer review, and a live bootcamp.

    Mentoring.

We are looking to grow our team so that we can move as quickly as our startup is growing. This means we’ll be hiring people of all skill levels, and that you’ll be expected to help mentor those that are not as experienced. We are a culture where we help others grow, and want that to be applicable for everyone. This means being always the student AND the teacher.

    Who you are working with:

You'll join a team of 10 other remote engineers who are working on various parts of the platform, and you'll be managed and mentored by Bo, our lead engineer, and Rahim, our director of engineering.
    Tech Stack:
  • Node.js
  • React / Redux
  • PostgreSQL
  • HTML / CSS / Javascript
  • AWS
  • We're looking for these personality traits:
  • COMMUNICATION: Whenever there are issues, you need to communicate clearly with management / rest of the engineering team. You should be thinking about scaling at all times and how to prevent similar problems for other engineers in the future.
  • SELF-SUFFICIENT: When we give you a task, it will just get done. You're not scared of any complicated technical issues -- you'll just dive straight into it and find a solutions. You have good technical opinions based on experience. You’ll speak up immediately when there’s any issues you can foresee based on past experiences for any processes or new technical decisions being made.
  • PROACTIVE: You’ll constantly be thinking about the overall health of the organization, and making sure we are tackling the right priorities first. If you feel like we aren’t, you should be bringing this up to the director of engineering and making sure we add tasks that reflect what needs to get done.
  • ATTENTION TO DETAIL: When you submit pull requests, you thoroughly test to make sure that you’ve covered all edge cases, instead of just solving for the most common one. When you review other people’s PRs, you don’t let anything slip through the cracks.
  • If you’ve made it this far, you should probably hit that nice looking green button below and apply. We’ll talk to you soon!

    What the job entails:

We're looking for our first Lead Creative UI/UX designer to work out of our offices in Los Angeles. You will be the design leader for Jumpcut, and will eventually grow to managing an entire design team. We're looking specifically for someone with at least 2 years of experience at a full time job (not contract work) doing UI/UX design for a popular consumer facing company. If you have experience only with enterprise products, this probably isn't the right role for you. :)

Many startups believe that amazing UI/UX is a “nice to have”. For us, it’s a “need to have”. At first glance, our mission to create the world’s best online courses seems like it revolves around course content and production quality. But in reality, that’s just the beginning. In order to truly set our students up for success, we believe we need to utilize UI/UX as a huge role in our students’ learning process. That’s where you come in.

Jumpcut is a Y Combinator company, and went through the startup accelerator in summer 2016. We've raised around $2M to date in venture funding, and are currently profitable. We create cinematic online courses with some of the world’s biggest influencers. Our founding team has years of experience creating binge-worthy content -- and now we are on a mission to interrupt the online education industry by creating courses for the modern world that are as addictive as your favorite TV show.

We’re looking for a lead designer. You have to love taking creative risks, and have a thoughtful approach to both UI and UX. Your goals will be twofold: how can you best improve our students’ learning experience, and how can you do so in a magnificently beautiful way?

    What you’ll do:

Improve conversion rates of final sales by 10% by improving the design of opt-in pages, landing pages, home pages, etc.
Improve our students’ learning experience by creating/iterating on platform features dedicated to student success.
Create aesthetically beautiful assets for our platform, including: thumbnails, banners, product images, worksheets, etc.
You’ll be a good fit if:
  • You value thorough research. This includes (but isn’t limited to) competitor research, user interviews, and usability testing. You also understand that at times the best inspiration can be drawn from the most unlikely places.
  • You constantly notice & appreciate great design. It doesn’t matter if you’re walking down the aisle in a grocery store or passing time on Dribbble. You’re able to spot and appreciate well crafted color palettes and delightful aesthetics.
  • You believe that UX is not an afterthought to UI. Everything at Jumpcut revolves around our students -- that means we don’t implement designs just because they’re beautiful, but because they’re functional as well.
  • Design risks don’t scare you. In order to truly be innovative, we believe you have to be comfortable taking design risks frequently. We’re looking for a designer that isn’t afraid to try something truly unconventional in an effort to help our students learn.
  • What we’re looking for:
  • Expert level proficiency with programs equivalent to: Adobe PS, Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, etc.
  • Experience working with a front-end developer to implement your designs.
  • Experience working on designs for a consumer-facing site where millions of people have seen your work.
  • 2+ years of experience with UI/UX and/or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your ability to craft delightful UI and UX.
  • If you’ve made it this far, you should probably hit that nice looking green button below and apply. We’ll talk to you soon!

    What the job entails:

Jumpcut has a significant web presence -- not only on the learning platform we have for our 12,000+ active students, but also on dozens of different marketing pages and sales funnels we’re split testing.  We are currently undergoing a big re-branding, and have plenty of pages to implement and our platform to rebuild. You will be the engineer we will go to for all our UI / UX requests, and the person to own the UI responsibilities of updating our pages accordingly and rebuilding our Jumpcut portal from scratch.

We have a high standard for quality and believe most things can be improved. We’re looking for someone who can translate our designs exactly to spec or better, look at something a designer has passed off and point out the exact aspects of the design that you’d change, and lead a discussion on why.

    What you’ll do:

You will be rebuilding our education platform and championing our mobile responsiveness experience, so we have many types of UI pages we’ll need you to work on. This includes everything from doing quick and direct translations from designs on one-off marketing pages (jumpcut.com/seminar), to more complicated tasks like implementing a completely new forum (if you’re a student of ours, we’re talking about forum.jumpcut.com). Additionally, we have a ton of React work to be done on our platform -- but you’ll be the one to write the components only structurally with markup and style them.

    Other responsibilities include:

    • Collaborating with in-house and third party designers to iterate and finalize designs
    • Implementing designs and translating requirements to near-perfect spec
    • Working with other FE / React engineers to ensure we’re meeting our design standards
    • Ensuring the highest of quality (maintainable) code

    Who you'll be working with:

This position will be reporting to our Product Manager, Catherine -- she’s great by the way! You'll be working closely with her, as well as the UI team, react engineers, and designers.
    Tech Stack:
  • CSS
  • HTML, JS
  •  React.js / Redux
  • Node.js (koa)
  • PostgreSQL (sequelize)
  • AWS / Lambda / DynamoDB
  • Technical Requirements:
  • 5+ years UI/UX experience
  • Mastery of CSS is a must. This means you pour a ridiculous amount of effort into considering how you’re structuring your stylesheets, using variables with SASS, mixins, and coding.
  • HTML and JS must be shortchange for you.
  • Passion for clean, polished, design. We are looking for somebody who lives, breathes, and craves it -- more than food.
  • What we're looking for:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knack for being resourceful and self-starting. You don't wait for work to come to you, you go to work.
  • Ownership mindset. When you get a task, it’s yours now. Imperfections are personal insults, and you fight to get features live and implemented correctly ASAP.
  • Attention to detail. Be it testing all mobile screen sizes, or ensuring that QA does it to making sure every last detail of the design was noticed and handled.
  • If you’ve made it this far, you should probably hit that nice looking green button below and apply. We’ll talk to you soon!

Additionally, we have a ton of React work to be done on our platform -- but you’ll be the one to write the components only structurally with markup and style them.

    Other responsibilities include:

Collaborating with in-house and third party designers to iterate and finalize designs

Most people like motion graphics because they’re “so pretty” or “fun to watch”. Not us.

We understand that these graphics are powerful communication and storytelling devices...which is why we need creatives like you in order to make the best online courses in the world.

We’re looking for someone who is ridiculously creative and has a thoughtful approach to crafting motion graphics. Someone who watches a Vox video and thinks, “I can do that...but better.”

Your responsibilities will revolve around brainstorming, writing, and creating engaging motion graphics that represent complex concepts. You’ll be working alongside a seasoned creative team of viral video experts who have generated over 1 billion organic views. Because our team is small, every single person (including yourself) holds a huge amount of creative say in every project we do.
    What you'll do:
  • Create wonderfully beautiful motion graphics for everything we produce from ads to courses. Graphics manifest as: full builds, partial builds, and kinetic typography
  • Improve our students learning experience by illustrating complex concepts through easy to understand motion graphics
  • Improve video ad conversions by 10% via motion graphics
  • Establish art direction for content and execute on it, from asset gathering to conception design and animation
  • You'll be a good fit if:
  • You are the most creative person in your friend group
  • You have a deep appreciation for well crafted color palettes and delightful aesthetics. Your texture library is admittedly, obnoxiously large
  • You truly believe that any concept, no matter how complex, can be broken down into easy-to-understand, bite-size pieces
  • You can watch Kurzgesagt all day long...on mute
  • You are are a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to framing, composition, and timing
  • You are confident in your ability to recreate the following design aesthetics, but with your own personal touch: (1) Rapping, deconstructed; (2) How free games are designed to make money; (3) Giving birth costs a lot; (4) Why are weddings so damn expensive?; (5) How the Republican party went from Lincoln to Trump
  • What we're looking for:
  • 2+ years of experience with motion graphics and/or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your ability to craft delightful graphics
  • Expert level proficiency with a combination of programs required to create beautiful motion graphics, including (but not limited to): After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Someone who is highly process oriented and organized
  • Experience working directly with senior level management
  • If you’ve made it this far, you should probably hit that nice looking green button below and apply. We’ll talk to you soon!

99.9% of online courses suck because they aren’t carefully crafted by creative, compelling writers. We’re approaching online courses a little bit differently -- we believe that writers like you are a crucial ingredient to changing how effective online education can be.

    What the job entails:

We are looking for a creative senior writer, specializing in video content, to write informative and entertaining online courses for our platform. This is a unique position: you'd be our first, full time staff writer on our team, responsible for researching, outlining, and writing the creative scripts for our upcoming courses. Each course will incorporate elements of storytelling, excerpts from interviews that we conduct, and scientific research in order to teach our students in the most entertaining and thorough way possible.

The below videos serve as inspiration for our courses. They are shorter versions of what we strive to accomplish: detailed information delivered in an incredibly entertaining, cinematic way:

The Alibi by Serial (you can watch ~15 minutes to get the gist of the style) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TlJsW4Eb6o&t)

Each of these videos is different, but their similarities are why we continuously turn back to them and those who created them for inspiration:

    • Incredibly inspiring, useful, and unique information
    • Exceptionally well thought out visuals that incorporate a huge variety of different mediums (interviews, sound bites, b-roll, news clips, footage shot by their team, motion graphics, kinetic typography)
    • A feeling of premium quality
    • Conversational language that anybody can understand and follow along with

    Who you'll be working with:

As our first senior writer, you'll be working directly with Kel, our Head of Content. You'll be responsible for all of the course writing, and work directly with Kel on revising and editing the scripts. As you write them, you'll also be in meetings with our entire creative and marketing teams to gather requirements and insights from them.

    Outcomes:

In 2019, you'll help us research and write the next 3 courses that we create.
In 2020 and beyond, you'll learn to manage a team of writers and become their senior editor.
    What you'll do:
  • Be the chief course writer for our upcoming courses
  • Deeply research and outline each course through articles, books, and expert interviews
  • Design the curriculum, and create engaging assignments that help students internalize the lessons
  • What we are looking for:
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, specifically in writing for video.
  • Strong research skills (you should be able to find compelling information on any topic)
  • You deeply love learning, and have a genuine enthusiasm for teaching
  • You can produce thorough, unique, and organized research on any topic
  • You are excited by the (challenging) task of taking a complex topic, and breaking it down into easy-to-understand, entertaining lessons
  • You are open-minded, and do not have an ego about your way being the only way
  • You approach strict deadlines with enthusiasm and optimistic aggression, not pessimism. Your overall vibe is “OK, let’s see how we can make this work.”
  • If you’ve made it this far, you should probably hit that nice looking green button below and apply. We’ll talk to you soon!

In every group of friends, there’s that *one* person who takes care of planning everything; from last minute brunches, to surprise birthday parties, to that one time you rented a giant house for Coachella. You never just have a "Plan A". We know planners like you make the world go round -- and we want you to produce our content.

We are constantly testing out new content and marketing ideas; some of our recent production projects include:

    • Client success stories like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGf9S_3gyzE
    • A 2 week, 2 team shooting trip in San Francisco to interview 30 startup founders on their experience for an upcoming course including Justin Kan, founder of Twitch: https://vimeo.com/286058986/b292aa02b3
    • Our upcoming course on Facebook ad agency creation, where we will be flying in 12 students and documenting their journey going through the course

Our growth plans for 2019 and 2020 are already underway, and we are searching for a Supervising Producer to join our core team!

    You will be responsible for:

    1. Production and Production Management. In 2019 we are launching 3 courses that you will be responsible for managing; the first of which is a course on Facebook Advertising. As our organization continues to grow, the number and diversity of courses will steadily increase. Your job will be to help lead the strategic and business planning of our production business, manage projects and budgets, oversee the production team, and execute on all logistics.

    2. Scaling and Growing the Department. We have an amazing founding team, and we need to scale it. You will be responsible for helping build and shape the department further and developing growth tracks for your team.

    Who you are working with:

You will be working closely with executive leadership and reporting to our CEO, Kong. You will also be working alongside a seasoned creative team of viral video experts who have generated over 1 billion organic views. Our team is still small (but amazing), and every single person holds a tremendous amount of input and weight.
For this role, you must have:
  • 3+ years of experience managing/building a production team of at least 15 people on set
  • An ability to identify top 5% of talent when it comes to: writers, DPs, editors, etc.
  • A successful track record of implementing and iterating on best practices, processes, and evaluation tools
  • Impeccable communication and project management skills
  • Additionally, you may be a good fit if at least some of the following are true:
  • You are process driven, and find organizing and complex planning fun
  • You have directly worked with executive/senior level management on projects
  • You have a stacked “professional toolkit” and network
  • You have in-house experience in internet video production, video ad production, or network production
  • You are able to confidently lead, motivate, and inspire others
