Intern To The CEO Los Angeles, CA

“Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.”

—Henry David Thoreau

Jumpcut is a Y Combinator and venture-backed startup that creates cinematic online courses with the world’s biggest influencers.

The founding team at Jumpcut has years of experience creating binge-worthy content — we’ve created multiple viral YouTube channels that now have over 4.5 million subscribers and over 500 million views. We’re now taking that content creation experience and applying it to the monotonous world of online education.

If you’ve ever taken an online course, you already know that 99% of them suck. That’s because they all do the same thing: record a dry and uninspiring instructor who talks to the camera for hours on end. While this is fantastic for getting over an Ambien addiction, it’s atrocious for actual learning.

Think about what can be done with video: we have the ability to create things like Avatar, The Dark Knight, and Game of Thrones, but the status quo when it comes to online courses is this. In an ice cream parlor of unlimited flavors, every other online education company has opted for vanilla. We have our eye on the mint triple chocolate chip birthday cake cookie dough with strawberry whipped cream and banana nut sprinkles.

Our team is approaching online learning in a completely new way: combining educational content with compelling stories, captivating cinematography, creative soundtracks, and much more. The result is a beautiful course that feels like a movie. We believe the future of education lies in creating world-class content.

Here’s a visual example of the difference between most online courses, and ours:

This is a 3 month internship where you will be directly working with our CEO, Kong. Work-wise, is not a internship where you spend your half of your day picking up caramel macchiatos. Instead, you will be diving head first into the problems and projects that our CEO works on day to day, and reporting directly to him. All your work will revolve around assisting him with his projects and tasks.

Since we are still a young startup, you will be wearing many hats. One week you might be talking to our users on the phone and brainstorming how we can improve our product. The next week, you might be helping us put together numbers for our investor pitch deck. While you’re here, you will learn about every aspect of running a startup and know our company inside out.

We’re looking for someone who has god-like organizational skills and atention to detail. If you didn’t immediately notice that the word attention was spelled wrong in that last sentence, you’re probably not right for the job.

  • Improving our product. You’ll be talking to our users and compiling data on how they use the Jumpcut platform — what they like, and what frustrations they have. You’ll also be doing competitive analysis (e.g. other successful features on educational platforms) as well as general education research.
  • Optimizing company culture. You’ll lead the brainstorms and execute on specific things that make our employees happier. These include creating an amazing on-boarding process for new hires, figuring out what swag to get, and organizing social events.
  • Networking. You’ll be doing a ton of people research, and help the CEO find other people who we should be connected with in the startup space, and setting up meetings.
  • You’ll also be given larger product responsibilities — for example, leading the charge on new growth strategies and testing MVPs for them (content marketing, SEO, etc).

  • Minimum 3.7 GPA (please include this in your resume)
  • Deep understanding of startups and consumer products
  • Extreme self-starter — you hustle and follow-through more than anyone else you know
  • Extraordinary organization and project management skills
  • Culture fit — see this blog post
